Card of the Day: King of Wands

The tarot card, the King of Wands
Deck: Mythic Tarot Modern

Vision • Authority • Mastery

The Sovereign ~ The part of you that leads from genuine conviction, not for approval, not from ego, but because the vision is clear and the will is strong enough to carry it.

Meaning

The King of Wands is mastery in motion. This card doesn’t represent raw talent or untested potential, it represents experience that has been lived through, lessons that have been paid for, and a vision that has survived contact with reality. It points toward the part of you that has genuinely developed something: a skill, a perspective, a way of moving through the world that is distinctly yours. The King is not performing confidence. He has it because he’s earned it.

This card invites you to examine where you’ve been minimising your own expertise, where you’ve been qualifying your knowledge, deferring when you don’t need to, or waiting for someone with a louder voice to confirm what you already understand. The King of Wands doesn’t ask for validation. He brings the fire and he trusts it.

Today, the invitation is to locate that same trust in yourself and act from it without apology.

Connection to Previous Cards

The arc of this week is almost uncomfortably clear to me. The Page of Wands arrived with curiosity and a spark, fresh, unformed, reaching. The Three of Cups asked me to bring that energy into community, to let it be witnessed and shared. Now the King of Wands lands, and something has matured. The Page asks questions. The King has answers.

What I’m tracking in myself right now is a shift from exploring to knowing, from gathering to directing. The week moved me from solitary spark to communal warmth, and now to standing fully in my own authority.

The question the King puts to me is simply: am I willing to lead from that place, or am I still waiting for something to make it feel more official?

Shadow-Side

The King of Wands carries a shadow worth naming clearly. Mature fire can become scorching fire when it stops listening.

Three patterns worth watching today: the tendency to mistake certainty for wisdom, to move so decisively that there’s no room for information that challenges the direction.

A second pattern is the subtle slide from confidence into arrogance, where other people’s perspectives start to feel less like input and more like obstacles.

Third, the King’s energy can tip toward burnout disguised as drive, pushing hard on sheer will when the body and the situation are both asking for a different pace. The fire is real and it’s yours. Just make sure it’s illuminating something rather than consuming it.

Guiding Incantation

I know what I’m building. I know what I stand for.
My fire is steady,  it doesn’t need more.
I lead from the inside. I answer to truth.
The crown I wear daily belongs only to me.

If the King of Wands lit something up in you today, there’s a whole deck of truth waiting at Old Town Witch – daily tarot reflections for people who are done playing small.
