Mold, Movies, and Making Do

Started the day doing a bit of garden maintenance; mounded up soil around the potatoes and yanked the rest of the radishes. They’d bolted, and the roots were more like red strings than veggies. Not worth the space.

Then… surprise! Found condensation inside one of my storage boxes. Opened it to discover mold city. Yuck. I chucked all the paper and cardboard and salvaged what I could with a good scrub. Silver lining? I found some old acrylic pours I did on LP records, completely forgot about them! Got an idea forming for those, so that discovery softened the gross factor.

Wound down the evening with a mini movie marathon:

  • Damsel (2024): Girl gets tossed to a literal dragon. Not bad.

  • Love Lies Bleeding (2024): Muscles, murder, and a whole lot of estrogen-fueled rage. Kinda loved it.

  • Ricky Stanicky (2024): John Cena playing a goofy, raunchy made-up best friend. Honestly? He kills it. I love how he plays big dumb jock energy with just the right touch of “naughty.”

While the movies played, I chopped up Walmart bags and started making plarn (plastic yarn). I’m crocheting it into an outdoor mat. It’s tough on the hands, but it holds up well outside.

I’ve always loved making stuff out of trash – plastic bottles become potting jars, aluminum cans get turned into fridge magnets and garden decor, even old books become art or storage. There’s something extra satisfying about giving discarded stuff a second life.
